K2S together with AW2 Architects have won shared first prize with their proposal “Kolmisointu” in the design competition for a new building in the historically significant Old Vaasa Hospital area. The two winning teams will continue developing their proposals and the design to be implemented will be announced in spring 2023.
The new building will house the forensic psychiatry’s three secured patient wards, a multi-purpose hall, kitchen, and staff cantina. The aim is to provide safe and enjoyable spaces for the patients and staff, while respecting the historical setting. Old Vaasa hospital is the oldest hospital in Finland still functioning in its original location.
