The Harry Schaumans Foundation’s mission is to promote science, education and culture in Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia. It owns a significant number of properties in the city of Vaasa. One of their buildings, the old Österbottens Hus building needed to be replaced with a new building. K2S was selected for its design in an invitation-only architecture competition in 2015.

K2S designed the tower-like, terraced 8 (+1) storey new building. The house forms a sculptural pair for the old Österbottens Hus. The building has a strong independent identity but is scalable to the heights of the surrounding neighbourhoods. The lower two floors are designed for offices and the upper apartments open up with great views towards the sea. The top floor apartments are two-storey. The 39 units of the building consist of spacious studio apartments, two-room apartments and three-room apartments, as well as large high-quality owner-occupied apartments on the upper floors.

The view from the top floor apartments opens over the city of Vaasa.

The new building has quickly become a new landmark for the city and the Harry Schaumans Foundation.
